BK Energy wins first African solar EPC
business for small and medium-sized enterprises in South Korea
BK Energy (President Lee Haeng-woo) won the
first African solar EPC (Design, Procurement, and Construction) project as a
Korean small and medium-sized company.
BK Energy announced on the 17th that it has
signed an MOU with a German renewable energy giant at GAIA, a Moroccan local
company that is jointly developing solar and wind power generation in 10
African countries.
According to BK Energy, the agreement was
made the day before when "GAIA" was mentoring, and "the EPC
contract for a project that can promote the project immediately was proposed,
as it has received a 20MW (EPC project cost of 20 billion won) license from
local financial institutions and has completed PF."
A BK Energy official explained, "Not
only will it help the national economy, which is struggling with a trade
deficit by winning the first solar EPC business in Korea, but also the small
and medium-sized Korean companies, which are not low-priced Chinese companies,
have opened the door to exports of solar power to Africa with their
technological prowess in Africa, where the potential for development of new and
renewable energy is endless."
Meanwhile, Morocco, located in the
northwest of Africa, is a country bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the
northeast and the Atlantic Ocean to the northwest and west, and is only 30km
away from Spain, a European country, and is also a gateway to Africa.
Recently, China is fully investing, and
Chinese companies are also actively entering Morocco, with Chinese conglomerate
Huawei deploying a large number of employees across the country.
Above all, Morocco, which has vast and flat
land and abundant sunlight and wind power, has many advantages for renewable
energy, so the government is working on many projects in wind, solar, solar,
and geothermal fields, and plans to cover up to 40% of its total electricity
production by 2030.
As a result, joint development projects
with local renewable energy companies to produce green hydrogen in Morocco are
also rapidly increasing, and the Korean government is also paying attention to
the fact that Morocco is rapidly emerging as a forward base for European hydrogen
exports.
In fact, the Ministry of Trade, Industry
and Energy decided to invest KRW 1.72 billion from July last year to December
2024, and the Korea Institute of Technology and Electrical and Electronic
Testing (KTC) and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) as joint
performance agencies for Morocco's ODA project.
BK Energy, which has received new
technology (NET) from the Ministry of Industry for developing "technology
that increases water solar power generation efficiency by more than 15%"
and has a patented technology that increases power generation efficiency by
more than 5% by preserving solar panels cleanly from air pollutants by
developing hydrophilic inorganic nano-coating technology, is participating as
an expert group.

BK Energy wins order for 20MW solar power EPC project
in Morocco
BK Energy (President Lee Haeng-woo)
announced on the 20th that it has signed a 20-§Ó roof
solar EPC (design, procurement, and construction) contract with a local
Moroccan company, GAIA.
The project has completed licensing and
financing through project financing (PF), and BK Energy can be used for
construction immediately. The total cost of the project is 20 billion won approx.
BK Energy was selected for the project
because it proved its business feasibility and quality through patented
technology that can preserve solar panels from air pollutants and increase
power generation efficiency. Based on this, BK Energy has also obtained a new
technology (NET) certification for water-based solar power generation
efficiency technology while serving as an expert group at the Ministry of
Trade, Industry and Energy.
The project was carried out during the
"ODA for Difficulties and Technology Guidance in Developing
Countries" worth 1.7 billion won, which has been underway in Morocco since
the end of last year by the Ministry of Industry. BK Energy participated in
technical guidance in the field of solar energy facilities and was offered the
project while conducting a mentoring program with a local business company,
Gaia.
Morocco has established a plan to cover 40%
of its total electricity production with renewable energy by 2030. In recent
years, it is also playing a role as a base for hydrogen exports to replace
Russian natural gas demand.
An official from BK Energy said, "We
are happy to open the door to African solar energy exports with the technology
of small and medium-sized companies."
