Creating water resource-based tourist destinations and accelerating the realization of a carbon-neutral society through cultural tourism linkage

BK Energy Co., Ltd. announced on the 24th that it was selected as the lead company for the ‘Tourism-linked water purification floating solar power pilot construction’ supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and will proceed with a research and development project with a total investment of 3.5 billion won.

Through this selection, BK Energy plans to accelerate the realization of a carbon-neutral society by improving the water quality of 17,599 reservoirs in Korea as well as reservoirs, dams, and public waters around the world, and to create a water resource-based tourist destination through cultural tourism linkage.

Floating solar power plants are installed on the water of reservoirs and dams to build renewable energy power plants while carrying out their original purpose of supplying water for agriculture or drinking. Unlike existing solar power projects that cause indiscriminate deforestation and landscape damage, floating solar power has emerged as a true future eco-friendly solar power alternative technology without damaging forests or encroaching farmland on land, and is attracting attention as a sustainable clean energy of the future.
